The 100 was on mobile duty but will now be on full time WiRES-X duty with an HRI-200 that the 400 was doing part time. The color screen is nice but small like the FT3DR and not touch screen which I'm glad it's not. You will have C4FM capability on both VFOs like the FT2DR and FT3DR but you will not be able to receive audio from both simultaneously. None of them do. You can switch between VFOs and the active one will be heard but not both at the same time. A disappointment at this price point especially when the unit is made in china. The fan on this unit is loud and never noticed other models making so much noise when just scanning. That's why they apparently needed a larger wire count. Pull that out too. The new microphone lacks a lamp switch and no way to turn that light off which is annoying while night driving. You really can't so it's a waste of a dual band radio; the 100 is the only one worth sacrificing for permanent duty but now discontinued. I exchanged my unit because it locked up while manually configuring the radio on the first day of ownership. The only way I could reset after trying several methods was to disconnect the power cable. A few days later the radio locked up again while programming memory groups and finally came back but lost all audio and wouldn’t scan. Nothing fixed it to include a factory reset or restoring from micro SD card. Another power cable disconnection fixed that problem.
